St. Patrick's Day Fun Run

A few weeks ago, I was feeling inspired to start entering some races.  The winter weather had me itching to be outside and free from the treadmill.  I was also counting the weeks until the adventure race my mom and I are participating in at the beginning of June in Dallas.

What better motivation than a two mile fun run to jump start our serious training?

It will be fun, I said.

The weather has to be warmer, I said.

It's something we can do together, I said.

And, both my husband and mom agreed.

The day before the race, the temperatures were in the 80's. (A good sign!)  My husband is just now recovering from a bad cold. (We agreed to take it slow.) We all have been off schedule with our exercise routines.  (We told each other that there was no shame in walking.)  And, it's only two miles. (A reasonable distance, right?)

The morning of the race, I woke up to a howling wind.  The temperatures?  Forty degrees, friends!
Thankfully, everyone still agreed to go.
 There was a nice crowd!
We all survived and had a good time.  We celebrated by eating Varsity Donuts, laughing about consuming more calories than we burned in our race.

Bring on the sunshine

We all need a little sunshine, especially during this time of year.  We just came through a few snowstorms in Kansas and on the heels of the snow was a series of grey days.  We are all so anxious for longer days and warmer temperatures.

I wanted to do something special for our team and was inspired by a blog post by Becky Higgins.  A friend sent her a "box of sunshine" - a gift box full of yellow items. What a great ideas to brighten someone's day.

My take on the gift of sunshine was to buy a whole bunch of yellow and orange things and bring them to our weekly staff meeting.

A common theme beyond "sunshine" was junk food, juice boxes, and office supplies.  It seemed to be a big hit and it was so much fun to surprise everyone.
